Commuting in the 200

They may have improved it for 2016, I haven't encountered the issues like it detecting an alternate lane vehicle during a turn or throwing errors. I do wish it had full stop+go support, though.

Same here, I really like it. Makes it easy to switch lanes to accommodate traffic. I haven’t noticed much in the way of errors.

Having not used any of these systems before I got my 14 LC I have to say I love the ACC in it. Had no problems with curves or false positives at all. I thought the little Land Cruiser graphic in the gauge cluster was a nice touch, and, the little brake lights on the graphic light up if it has to apply the brakes. Anyway, as a ACC noob I'm very happy with ours.

I keep the adaptive cruise on but it is a very basic system. It feels like the system in my old S class (which debuted in 2005 with minimal updates to the system I imagine).

PRO: set it and forget it if you are not in a rush
CON: you cannot keep a good average speed with this thing slowing down constantly and needing a huge distance to the vehicle ahead.

That being said I like to relax in my Landcruiser so I leave it on and I'll get there when I get there. I use my other cars for speedier progress.

This technology is best left to the Germans for now. The new Audi A8 is almost fully autonomous so maybe the next gen of Toyota and Lexus will be okay in stop and go traffic.

The real test of a stop and go adaptive cruise control system is anywhere in the NY metro area during rush hour. If it can leave a safe enough distance for you to not let 20 cars in whilst also not crashing from front or behind then it's perfected :)

I agree with Reckless and Canyonero, after you try other systems, you're left going hmmm, this thing kinda sucks.

I drove a new XC90 recently and was blown away by how easy and effective its system is. It's kinda freaky the first time you try it.

+1

I occasionally use it in my XC90, but never in the 200.

Can I actually use regular cruise control on my ‘16? I can’t figure out how to turn off the adaptive. I know how to change it from 3 bars of space to 1. I hate the adaptive cruise control.

If it is like the '13, push and hold the cruise stalk forward until the icon changes - about a second or so.

If you just press the button momentarily, it turns on adaptive. Hold it in a second or two until it changes to normal CC.

Why would you want to let the driver in front of you drive your car?

My commute is about 15 miles. It takes me about an hour. Much of it is stop-and-don’t-go on a highway. I would love to have a system that took over some of that drudgery for me.

I'm looking at LX570's, not sure what year to get. I do love ACC.
Can anyone tell me what the changes were, and in what years, to ACC in the LX?
Thanks.

2016+ has full speed range
Thanks so much. Do you happen to know if the ACC in the 2008-2015 are identical? If there was no improvement in the function of the technology that would be helpful to know. 2016 brought a lot of changes, and while I like most of them, I really dislike the redesigned front end and I'm not convinced the switch to the 8-speed was an upgrade.
Thanks again.

2013-2015 is adaptive prior to that it’s a regular cruise. Styling is subjective and I do prefer the 13-15 LX but it was difficult finding a great condition one due to the age so I searched 16+ and I’m happy with the upgrades. The 8 speed is not as bad as people make it out to be once every 1000 miles there’s a situation where it’s a bit dim witted or not smooth which I’ll take.

16+ cruise control is indeed full speed and I use it to great effect in the Lincoln tunnel. The stops aren’t always smooth but if the dogs not in the car I’ll use it more often

I love the LC front end but the 8 speed sucks.
