I'm running 33x12.50's and some PO mystery springs that are about as stiffer than ron jeremy in...... anyway, a while back I measured my frame to ground distance and it seemed to compare to the guys running 4" springs.

Requirements:
I am planning on taking the cruiser on long (5,000-10,000) mile road trips in one sitting across the US- wanting to keep the profile of the 33" (fits 35") tires but also need a somewhat drivable ride quality. I know its a cruiser....but whats my best option? Right now I have custom valved Bilstein 7100's in the front and some off brand in the back....

I called up the guys at TLC and they said that I wouldnt get any kind of ride quality at 4" and that OME @ 3.5" would be the way to go...BUT I know they are into classic builds etc so I would like to hear what you guys running 4-5" lifts think.

Cheers,

Eli

I cant speak from experience, but ive done a ton of reading on this site and cruisers in general. The general consensus is for comfort OME is the best way to go.

or spring over would give you about the same amount of lift and a soft comfy ride...ride might improve with 60 springs also...

I'm on a 2,500 mile road and wheeling trip right now. 3" Alcan lift, Bilsteins, and 33x10.5 tires and it rides like a dream for a leaf-sprung vehicle. I know that's not exactly what you asked for but it sure works good for the purposes you state.

SOA stock flat spring and 5100's ride like butter

if you arent for soa on stock springs, which i would do for best ride, i would get alcans for sure

my 4'' rough country were smooth on my 1500 mile trip a couple months ago.. i haven't even really broken them in yet either.. i mean, sure put me on a bumpy road and its a little jarring but once you're on the highway its very smooth

maybe take a leaf out of the ones you have? might be the fastest and cheapest way to get some results

Buy an 80 series. :p

I use adjustable shocks that have a huge effect on ride quality. Stiffest setting is well... stiff. Lowest setting is a little too bouncy. Middle setting is just right.

I've had good luck with my 4" skyjacker softrides but some people don't like them. They're quite old now and aren't as tall as they once were but I drive my cruiser a lot (including 200 mi round trippers from SD to Samo) and still like them. The rig is here in Samo for the next few days if you want to check out my setup and give it a spin.

Dom- I'm new to Socal. Where is Samo?

Samo High... Samo Pier... Dog Town.

Santa Monica.

haha. wow. my own town and I had no clue! (no wonder google maps was having issues....:))

Yea it would be cool to check out your rig. I'm about to head out to SOR and Marks Off Road for some parts, and should be back by early evening (thinking 5 or 6ish.) Are you around? What is a good time or day (if not this eve) for you?

Cheers,

Eli
