Hi there. I'm looking for someone who can rebuild or replace the engine in my 97' fj80. I live in the Denver Metro area, but I'm willing to travel. Any thoughts are greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I have the same question. I’ve reached out to Redline, Slee, Robbie, and Ben without much luck. Ben has moved. Robbie injured his back and is apparently moving also. Slee said they aren’t equipped to do an engine rebuild right now. Redline didn’t seem too interested either.

I made the same calls to the same folks, and received the same unsatisfying responses.

Call Dave at Lexota in Evergreen. Not sure if he does full rebuilds, but if he doesn't he'll be able to point you the right direction. Good people.

Everyone likes to say this. Many of us simply just don’t have the time.
If 'the time' is all that's holding you back from rebuilding an engine, hats off to you.
I'm still staggered when only one of a pair of socks comes out of the dryer.
Or, "why doesn't the water pour back out of the iron when I turn it on its 'side'?"

Safe to say I could be elected President tho.

Call bill at mountain high performance in arvada. He did/does all of robbies machine work. He won't pull and install the engine, but if you find someone to pull and strip it down, bill can rebuild it and someone can install it. Bill may have a suggestion for mechanics. I've used atlr in arvada, they're toyota specialists, for routine and smsll things i didn't want to bother with. They've grown in the last couple of years, but still good guys.

Expect about 3 months for machine work including getting parts. Of course, spend more and you can probably get parts 3 to 4 weeks sooner. I would to expect to pay $15-$20k for a well built, toyota part 1fzfe. I'm about $7 to $8k doing a lot of the work myself.

My son @mcguirejohnson may be able to help you. He’s a tech at a local shop I’m Fort Collins. Either it could be run through the shop ( they will have him do the work since it’s a cruiser) or he might have the flexibility to do it on the side for you. Don’t think he spends much time on mud lately so feel free to PM me and I can connect you with him. The name of the shop he works at is Nelsens Auto Tech Center on Mountain street. You can always catch him there during business hours. He’s got a few 80’s & 60’s and has been working on them since he was 15. Also, he knows quite a few cruiser folks in the FC who may be able to help.

Thanks CenTXFJ60 -- I'll PM you!
