If one were to plan a trip to colorado, say Crested Butte area, and wanted to see the fall colors, but avoid the snow.... when would one want to make the trip?

I know winter in colorado can come early... so I don't want to miss the fall season.

That sounds like a good way to cause carnage on the wifey's cruiser!

It's all something a stock cruiser can do..

Sept early oct is my favorite time out here. The crowds are minimal in the mountains. Nice warm days with very cool nights. It's hard to gauge the colors depending on altitude and when the real cold and a good wind takes them.

I agree, I bow hunt the third week of September and the the colours are usually changing and by the last week they have changed.

In certain areas though the colours can come and go in a blink of an eye...

Got it booked. I'll be headed y'all's way around the 17th of Sep, and returning the 23rd or 24th.

    On the agenda:
    1) Coors tour
    2) I'd like to wheel a pass or two (suggestions in the crested butte area)
    3) much needed r/r
    4) Visit some mudders?

Dude, if you're serious- I'm game. I didn't think you'd have time to do all of that for me. I didn't even want to ask.

Don't tease me like that.... Cause I've been wanting a rear bumper/tire carrier at least.. for the 80 for some time.

Sliders would HAVE to be step sliders... once you meet the wifey you'll understand why.

    check your schedual,
if you can take a day on the weekend, we could get them mocked up at least.
finish them later and ship them to you.
of course, i'd have to keep them for a bit to make a jig.

CAUSE WE ALL KNOW YOU GUYS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THE 80 SLIDERS TO GET IN PRODUCTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    did i say that out loud???? :D :D :D

i'd prolly even take a day off work for you DOC. ;)

I elk hunt not far from Crested Butte (which I'd skip)... in the Taylor Park Reservoir area around Star Mountain and Cement Creek. Beautiful country and plenty of wheeling to be had.

The reasons for Crested Butte are more sentimental than anything.. and great hiking there. This is not going to be a 'wheelin' trip. But if I happen to get a few wheeling trips in on the side, that's cool too.

Dude, I'm game. We'll probobly leave on a Friday night, or EARLY Saturday. I'd expect to be in your neighborhood Sunday on the way in, or Friday/Saturday on the way out. Might be easier to drop a day or two on the way into colorado, rather then when we are tired on the way out.

But you let me know what works best for you. I can take measurements of the factory running board on the 80 so that you can at least get the flat slider/step portion mocked up ahead of time. Will save time there. I'd like to have them welded on, but am OK with you shipping them as bolt on affaris as well.

Oh, Jim- 11 hours 18 minutes from my place to yours according to map quest. That's one hell of a long day of driving. If we split it up and leave Friday night and drive for 3-4 hours we could be at your place at a decent hour on Saturday.

Oh, and your not that far from Golden either... where I need to make an appearance.

    your fans await you!

if you want them welded on, we can do that no problem.
thats a whole lot less time in the mfg process.
no brakets to make and drill.
easy build as we go kinda thing..

we can get that done easy in a day and on your way!!!!! ;)

Well, I may be looking for an employment opportunity- not really the free suds.

PS, don't tell 'em, but I tried the Sam Adams light this weekend, it was super great for a light beer.

If you are going to be there, you might want to check out Marshall Pass .It crosses the Continental Divide from Sargents to Salida. It is 2-wheelin stuff but georgeous. It follows a narrow gauge rail line. I grew up in Sargents. If you make it to Salida there is an awesome Landcruiser graveyard there. I bought a hard top and a front axle stub-shaft from them. They have everything you can think of for cruisers. http://www.classiccruisers.com/
