Cold Weather Start Strategy (1 Viewer)

When its cold should you start the engine and let it idle to warm up or immediatly start driving?
My last car , an Audi, recommeded the latter of the choices. I'm not sure why, but probably something to do with circulating the oil.

Does this even matter when using Synthetic oil?

I assume that most manufactures recommend that you start diving your vehicle to warm all of your "systems" - Tranny, TC, Axles up to operating temp at around the same time. What good is it to have a warm engine if you stomp on it and everything else is cold? This was what a BMW tech. told me when I had my M5.

Yup, crank her up and go. Just don't go hammer down right off the bat. Drive conservatively until it is up to temp. Some BMW's actually have the lights on the tach that show safe rev limits which go off as the car warms up.

Just wait until the Oil pressure (<10 sec) is up before giving it the gas.
This is a good reason to run 5w-30 OR 0W-30 in the engine and synthetics all around.
