Hello to all, I have an 87 HJ60 auto cruiser and have started having cold start issues. the main trouble is when I go to start it first thing in the morning I have to give it a bit of throttle, otherwise it will immediatly stall, If I give it a bit of throttle it will start but run rough for the first 30 seconds or so. Also once it's started it wants to idle around 400 rpm then when it runs for a couple of minutes or so it will idle upto 750 like its supposed to. Is there supposed to be some sort of cold start enrichment on these things? If I undestand correctly the automatic version of the 2H does not have an EDIC so how does it handle cold start?

The 1st thing to do is check that the glow plugs are all working. The running rough means its runing on 4-5 cyl and a glow plug is the most likely culprit.
Having the injectors serviced can also help on cold starts.
You can also turn up the hand thottle if one is fitted.

The HJ60 glow plug system has 2 audible clicks. The 1st click occurs about 7-10 seconds after turning the key, the 2nd click is 15-25 seconds after the 1st click. You'll also notice your volt gauge increase slightly. If that isn't your issue then check glow plugs, etc.

Ok I just did a resistance check on my glow plugs today and they all seem to be ok, anyone have any other ideas? Is there any sort of coldstart fuel enrichment on these things?

Diesels inject their fuel full strength into compressed air inside the combustion chamber and the air temperature ignites the fuel.

I would have the injectors checked and if they dont do it ,have the compression checked.
The colder it gets the harder it is for an engine to compress the air and raise the temperature
Its not unusual for diesels to need some throttle when cold. If you have a hand throttle turn it up a little when starting.
