im throwing around the idea of ixsnaying my leafs and going to a coil over suspension....need some advice on brands and lengths working with a stock fj40 chassis to start...i know nothing about the nice coil overs that i see all the rock crawlers using...i have all the fabrication capabilities just need some input

I want to see some more 60s with 4-link...

search on all of SpaceGhosts posts...LOTS of coilover stuff...

Mace has coilovers in front

minimum 14" strokers all around, ideally as "straight up and down" as possible, will mean thru tub in rear and no fenders in front....dual rate coils with tender, stick to 2.5" body for more coil availability. Figger minimum 37" tires, and a very likely an upgrade to your axles system.

35" links plus heims fit nicely all around, for street use do a twin Y-link front with panhard so you get some road handling.

God of Suspension thread on PBB was JUST on the front page again...probably page 2 or 3 of General Tech now...worth the 30 page wade thru of reading....I've breezed it 3-4 times, and then did my rear link setup.

cool i will check it out...not to worried about going through the tub...i had a perfectly good tub but someone i had helping me with this project a couple of years back decided to cut my tub in half when i wasnt around....long story...so i have a clean chassis with a clean tub from the firewall to the back of the door posts....was planning on doing tube fenders for the front ...but would still like to keep cruiser running gear, got lots of spares if needed

I've got swayaways and the quality is good. I haven't run them yet so I can't comment on the performance. For vendors talk with Dave (pig) at Polyperformance, he has a wealth of knowlegde on coilovers and can give you the low down on different manufactures.

I would agree with woody about the 14"ers. I have 16s and they are long sobs. I perfer to angle mine so they don't go beyond vert during articulation, and have most effect at full comp and droop. Also having the lowers angled out a bit should help with tire clearance and the feel of stability. Although this option requires the frame to possibly be notched or modified.

oh and correction to woody's post :flipoff2:, you want 2" coiolvers so you can get 2.5" coils. 3" coils are the hard expensive ones to find. Oh and panhards and ylinks sux! Unless you can't run full hyrdo steering.

yep, I have 16" saw's on the front of my rig. Very happy with them.

The limited wheeling that I have done with them has made me love the CO in comparison to a SO.

I am not positive that I agree with Woody on the vertical thing. I think they can easily be angled slightly for more articulation with no loss in effectiveness.

Pig is excellent as a source of info and a great place to buy from. He set up my Coilovers. I would not buy from anyone else.

The Radius arm is a old tride and true system. It is basically what Bronco's have. If you want to drive it on the street it is not a bad idea. However a true 4 link is a bit more complex and has superior handling characteristics..

I am running 14" SAW coilovers in the rear of my rig and love them.

I am not a huge PIG fan like the above listers, but that is just me. Find a good shop and they can set you up with waht you need.

I am running a SOA front with CCOT HFS FJ-40 springs and 14" SAW coilovers in the rear 100/150.

I am going to have to have a few 1000 dollars laying around in heeps to justify linking the front as my current setup is working so well, it is so stable and I really like it.

If you want to spread out the cost, do one end at a time.
