Good day to you all, I just picked up my truck from Stampede Toyota in Calgary who put a new head on my lj78 for me. Now When I first start the vehicle all is well and if I get the turbo going right away then it drives fine. If I start slowly, the engine light goes on. I then pull over, turn the truck off, start it up again, and giv'er right away. I am getting a code 12. Can anyone give suggestions on how to fix this? I want to sell this truck because as many of you know this is a disaster engine, but I can't in good concience do this with the engine light on!!

Stampede knows about as much about Land Cruisers as i do Chevs...
take it back and tell them to get it fixed under warranty... you try yourself and you will void the warranty...

Hey Crusher the guys at proactive auto in calgary adjusted the timing pump and diagnosed the code 12. the guy noted that the only fix is a new injector pump and told me that I might as well wait till it dies before I replace it. he forgot to mention the fact that the turbo doesn't work when the light is on. Do these guys know what they are talking about? I was wondering if you ever dealt with them when you had your shop in Calagary. Man I wish you stuck around there for a few more months:D

I used to trust Mike but the last year or so that trust is ... questionable.

Dan at 4wheel has my old LJ78, it has a great pump on it. contact him. IF that is the problem...

you can not really sell the truck with the problem, so they have you over a barrel.

WHY did they adjust the pump?

it is a rotory pump... i would try a $20 feeder pump first, i know on the old bush LJ78 it made a huge difference...

now, curious, which mech that diagnossed the problem ?

DTC 12 = engine speed sensor circuit

- open or short in crankshaft position sensor circuit
- crank position sensor problem
- ECU problem

The crank positions sensor is built into the pump.

ummm, if the sensor is built into the pump then where is the sensor lead?

I don't know which mechanic did the work. It was through stampede and they were very stingy when it came to handing out info. I would never use them again. What do you mean crucher when you talk about a feeder pump? And john, can you replace just the crank position sensor or is it integral to the pump. (By the way those adaptors for the manual hubs on my cruiser worked out awsome!)

an elec 12V feeder pump that you will install back by the tank, this pushes the fuel up to the injection pump reducing the stress on the fuel pump and allows it to function properly.

i have posted in the past about Stampedes track record... when they lost Mike they lost the only real mechanic they had...

ummm, if the sensor is built into the pump then where is the sensor lead?

All of the wiring for the pump and its related sensors connect to the pump via the various connectors and leads that come out of the pump. There's a bunch of them in there - fuel temp, crank position, RPM etc...

well it turns out that it was Mike who diagnosed the code 12. I will call him tommorow and see what he says about the situation. So from what I understand there is not enough fuel getting to the injection pump and a solution would be to install another (feeder) pump to boost the pressure. Could it be the fuel pump inside my tank that could be at fault here? Were would I be able to source a feeder pump Crusher?

i talked to Mike today at Pro Active... seems to know a lot more then those clowns at stampede!! Anyway he says the issue is the soleniod at the back of the pump that causes the computer too send a signal to cut the fuel way back. Well, I don't quite understand but I think I can trust him. The next step is to see if i can just replace that soleniod. If I can't, Mike was saying some of his customers were picking up brand new injector pumps from Australia for 600 bucks. Does anyone know a source down under that I could contact?
