I just installed a new clutch master cylinder (napa) in the 79’ and drove it around town about 30 miles. It is now making 1 pop/thump noise after pedal is depressed about 2”; every time. Sounds like the pushrod is hanging up, then braking(like a trigger). Fluid is darkened already in the reservoir.

new slave (adjusted professionaly)
pedal height: 8.5”

bad parts?

Determine whether pop is in cab or underneath in clutch area. If in clutch area, Open the inspection cover, have a friend press the clutch pedal while you watch the slave press on the release arm. Look for anything out of the ordinary. If nothing visible, look at pedal and around pedal area for binding or something loose.

Release arm on the clutch pivot is one area for noise. Just make sure nothing is touching or binding visually. Report back what you find.

the noise is in the master cylinder, not underneath. Push pedal, get resistance until pop, then goes to floor. There is no visual binding, or loose stuff.

not sure what happens when driving, started when i pulled into driveway.

edit: nut on pushrod was not super tight. cranked on it and is better. will drive some.

sounds almost like the rubber cups in the master are flipping inside out when pressure is applied-obviously not holding pressure as you say the pedal goes to the floor--when the pedal goes to the floor, is the trans disconnected?(clutch plate released)?
