I would tend to agree with AZOKIE that your transfer case may be in neutral check your transfer case shift lever to insure it is in in gaged

I cannot see clutch disc as the pressure plate covers disk. I can take screwdriver and place in flywheel holes and spin.

Your 40 is a 76 & 2F powered correct? You have a B&B pressure plate. Which flywheel did you use? The B&B pressure plate uses a stepped flywheel. The diaphragm pressure plate uses basically a flat flywheel. Have you mixed them up? Can you take a picture from the bottom and show the flywheel and pressure plate?

If that's the case wouldn't it be grind when shifting between gears? Transmission should be spinning inside.

I downloaded the picture on my phone. I think the clutch fork is not correct for the B&B pressure plate.
This clutch fork is for a B&B clutch

Here are pics. I did swap out fork but that is all. I took flywheel, pressure plate, clutch disk, throwout bearing & bell housing off of old motor and attached to this. The fork is the only thing different. They looked same. Can I swap out fork without taking tranny off

From what I have read all the 2F's had diaphram clutches and the F & F.5 had B&B clutches. The flywheel, pressure plate and clutch fork are different. They are not interchangable. You can swap them but everything needs to be swapped.

strange it worked before for 2 years. So, if I swap fork it should work since that is the only thing different. I kept parts seperate, why would it work before? I will swap out.

Anyone know how I can get transer case out of neutral?

pics say a thousand words. Thanks a ton.

if the fork is not applying pressure on clutch shouldn't the clutch be engaged and not be taken out of gear as the fork could not apply enough pressure to pressure plate to disengage? This is why i think the transfer case is in neutral, but for sure I do have to change out fork.

Ok I see transfer case photo and I am looking at my transfer case and they are same. Mine is pushed all the way to H2 - do I need to do this when truck is on or will it work being off?

If it's in 2H you should be going. Have you moved shifter to all positions? Does it feel.like it's hitting the detents in t-case?

I think I got it. Truck started to move and I put it in reverse and it started in reverse. I will take out for test drive later as I have to wait for my wife to come back to watch kids. I will update everyone. Thanks

Well let us know what you found. What ever it was sounds like it's a simple fix and your on your way to less stressful times

Case Closed. Works perfectly. Transfer case was in neutral. it would shift and appear to go into gear but I noticed it started to grind once I rocked car. I began to rock the car and I heard a noise. I went back to put it in drive and it worked. I just did test drive of 5 miles and shifted perfectly and I love the sound of the fj60 engine. Thanks to everyone for their help.

I will begin to post a boat load of my parts on classified so be on look out.
