yes we have a defacto president & a defacto board. President is Howard, goes by Werd on the board.

To the extent I know the "club" is not formally established, or at least not a formal chapter of TLC yet.

No dues, no formal organization, no elected officers as of yet to the extent I know.

I second the motion.

Alright just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something. If I was going to live here for more than 18 months I would volunteer to try to get something going. Alabama needs a yearly TLCA sponsored event to represent the region. GSMTR for Upstate STR for ONSC, etc.

nah. Don't need no sanctioned event. Why does it need to be sanctioned? Insurance? Otherwise it's just a name. Not saying I'm against the machine, just saying that it's easier to get a ride/event together without all the additional paperwork to say it's sanctioned.

Here's the other issue we're facing in our ever-expanding private park state: They're all parks for crawlers and not many people on the cruiser board have crawling type rigs, they have expedition rigs. Which means, YES we have alot of parks, but NO you can't ride them.

War Eagle Cruisers meats every other weekend out at the GAP (we actually meat at Arby's and roll out there strong), and in it's 6 months of being open, Jason, you're the only out-of-town cruiser that's been there. But you kinda see why... there's only stuff for crawlers.

I'm most interested in a club ride right now. Maybe even a camping trip to a park in North Alabama... maybe head down to B&B... but it's takes comraderie to make a large event happen.

Well I'm not saying it needs to be sanctioned, I don't really see the need either and thus why I am not a TLCA member. I don't think they are actually necessary or really do anything productive. But just something that the local state club could put it's name behind.

I agree a club ride is needed. And it appears up north is the place to do it. I've heard a lot of good things about the land and trails up there but have yet to trek up and see them. Hope to get a glimpse during GSMTR. Just something that people could all get around and actually drive around and drink some beers for a night or two. Maybe a Fall ride??? I'm trying to find my Cullowee pics for motivation.:bounce:

Here they are: Took my 4-runner...IFS led to me getting pulled out by a 40 series. Loved that thing.

We need to have a club meeting and get as many of us from around the state to be these. I have gotten so busy over the past year that I haven't done much with my cruiser or the club.

We really need to talk about the direction of the club. Joining TLCA is an option, but there are other directions that we may or may not want to consist.

Everyone that has been involved has done a great job of keeping things going and finally getting something started. We are really coming along as a club and it is time to start getting down to business.

If you need to get in touch with me DO NOT pm me, unless you want to wait month for a reply, you can send me an email via my profile page on mud.

Thanks again to everyone involved in our club!
Howard

Alabama seems to be in the same predicament that ONSC had. Most of the Western members belong to the TN or SC clubs as it could take 6 hours just to get to a central location for the monthly meetings. Luckily most lived within a couple hours. Those who participated heavily always lived very close together...many of the main members within 20 minutes of each other.

We ended up breaking it down into to a couple smaller factions for monthly meetings. We could do something the same here to help get something started. Maybe one for the north and one for the south. I will make a couple of the Birmingham meetings but even that is a close to 4 hour drive which I can't make on a regular basis. But I also understand that not many people live in this part of the state either that are in the club.

Another thing to point out to other members or while recruiting off of the tech pages is that we are a family organization. Many people have a view that it is a bunch of HC wheelers or single guys with few manners. Our club was actually very family oriented and many of the wives did more work for the club than the guys did. The more kids and dogs you could throw in the mix the merrier.

Finally you need at least 1 if not 2 MAIN club rides to pull people in. Even if they are up north that is fine.

Also there has to be some central leadership and coordination (It takes a few dedicated people).

Start something like a monthly HAMOM and put it up on the board and schedule it advance. The first meeting I ever went to was a HAMOM at my own house.

Just some things that I recognized as the ONSC was getting started a few years ago. In that 3 years they have grown from the 10 or so we had to over 70 members half of whom are VERY active in the group.

Jason,

Appreciate hearing your comments and suggestions. A number of folks have suggested similar ideas in the past. As you have noted there are a number of people on this board who are spread out across the state. As for as posting (in the clubhouse area) I think the majority of the people are centerally located around Birmingham. Then there are a few in the Auburn area and a few further south.

As you noted...the critical element is some dedication.

Welcome to the board....

Thanks for the Welcome,

I wouldn't mind being some sort of central leadership for those in the south to help get things started down here. I would like to do a lot more but I don't want to be a dis-service to the club. I will only be here for another 12-18 months and I would hate to get something started just to leave it hanging. That and once I start IERW and my advanced courses I don't have a lot of time to put into even talking to my wife let alone planning. But for the next couple of months and the six that I am in the CCC I should have plenty of time to help organize, recruit, and coordinate meetings/rides.

Hey Jason, Hawk Driver was in the exact same boat as you about a year or two ago. he started an offroad forum down there and then got swept up... We all appreciate anything you can do... But just spreading the word when you see a cruiser/yota would help really. You won't be stepping on anyone's toes that i know of...

I tried a few years ago to make the state thing happen. Nothing panned out. but i did start WEC, the local group that even has jeeps in it. We meat every other thursday and are very tight. Woody has asked me repeatedly since '05-'06 maybe (until now he no longer even asks me) to start a forum for us on here... but as you pointed out earlier being family... we are just way too crude for public talk... Not always, but we don't care to censor our mouth unless children are around.
WEC has one rule.... Conecuh Sausage

i see B'ham being the hub for DixieLand maybe. And maybe we can have a Saturday cookout up there... maybe at a park that has a huge parking lot and even camping for us out-of-towners... that can get us all togther to get the chatter up...
If someone love cruisers and traveling then go to an event... it doesn't need to be in Alabama, just go. Werd and I surprised the b'ham group with a "showed up" visit at one of the meetings, it was awesome group of guys, but the first time I've met most of them in person. We do not need to be official to enjoy each other, not do we need to be official to go to events...
but we will never be a tight group until we spend in-person time together and get from behind these screens...

what happened to the Montgomery meetings? seems like those were going strong for a while and then they died down. Birmingham will be the natural center for the club just because of the larger population, but it will be hard for you or anyone from Mobile to make it up here for a meeting, even to Montgomery really. Southeast Alabama is probably closer to North Florida than any of the other populated areas of Alabama.

you are def. not stepping on toes, we are glad to have you here and welcome any input you can give.

speaking of Hawkdriver, has anyone heard from him?

I only remember, uh scratch that, I vaguely remember one MGM meeting. And well we shut hooters down that night I believe. terryjmatthewjterrymatt was so [STRIKE]drunk [/STRIKE] nice that he fitted the entire bill...

MGM really needs to meet at the Oasis buffet at VictoryLand... so all Auburn folk and montgomery folk can meet up... That would cause a trun-out i bet

I sent Hawdriver a PM when I got here. I talked to a guy with a built chevy on a ride at bogs and boulders and he said he moved out to Utah. I saw his Avtar and it stated Odgen underneith it if I remember correctly. He was trying to keep the wiregrass thing going but not much was happening on that board.

I need an official card or soemthing. I must have stuck almost 20 personal notes on guys cruisers over the past year and I've only had 1 response. Ohh well I guess that is why I'm not a door to door salesman.

Maybe I'll try to set something up in the July/September timeframe for a meeting for those in this part of the state.

I printed cards once and stuck them on every yota i saw that resembled offroad... i never got a single call back.... Even met folks in person and upon talking to them said they got the card but never inquired... I'm of the opinion cards don't work... I think folks gotta WANT to be a part of something...

... I think folks gotta WANT to be a part of something...

yep. when we were getting this started and sending out pm's to everyone from alabama we could find on the board we got two types of responses - "what's in it for me" and "finally, I have been trying to find out what happened to the alabama chapter." I can't think of one of the "what's in it for me" folks who have participated in the least. The rest are still participating plus a few more who have come on since then. The family friendly aspect is important to everyone, but that slows things down too since everyone's kids get sick and people keep having new ones and they always seem to take priority over the new club.
