Last time I rebuilt a transfercase (when I installed an SM420 in my 40 circa 2004) I sandblasted the case and left it au natural. I didn't love sandblasting because i never really felt like I got all the grit out of every bolt hole and every nook and cranny of the case internals and leaving it au natural means that it was pretty quickly stained/dirty again.

I am now rebuilding the original transfercase to put back in and this time I would like to paint the transfercase so hopefully it cleans up easier in the future. What kind of silver paint does everyone use? Special prep? Sand blasting the way to go or should I try something else? Appreciate the tips!

There's a guy over in the 60 forum that had his t-case vapor blasted. I'm not sure what it costs, but it looks great.

I'm getting ready to do mine also. I ordered this from Eastwood to try after I get it cleaned.
