Christo,
Hopefully you saved a copy of that?

Someone here is running the 4.88's? Are you running 35's?

I am thinking about going with 4.88's on a 33" tire.

What is the max width tire that we can run on these stock rims? Currently running 285/75/r16. Would like 33/12.5/16 in the SSR flavor. Is anybody running these?

Nope, that was not me. 4.88's with 33's would be a bit much in my opinion. Especially since you have the turbo to help you with the towing. I have had 37" SSR's on stock wheels but they were beadlocked :D

33" SSR's on stock wheels will be fine.

Yo- Here is a link to one of many sites with these calculators. http://www.ring-pinion.com/c-rpm.html

Also, here is a trans ratio table that Cruiserdan put up on sor and I shamelessly saved. Hope this helps.

I remember this post. Its the one that clearly shows the superiority of the A442F.

Keep.... :slap:

Wow, just noticed the "fluids" part. 5 more quarts used on the older ones, that is interesting.

Re: Christo can you post that RPM/gear ratio figur

I also posted it here. It's on page 1.

To add a bit.....Using the table and some math tells you what you want to know.

EG: average 275/70/60 tire makes 667 revs per mile. 667 x 4.1 = 2735 driveshaft RPM = 60 mph. x .765 (in the case of a 442) = 2092 driveshaft rpm. at 60 mph in OD with stock tires and gears. I say driveshaft rpm because there is a torque converter in the equation. If it is un locked, your rpm will vary.

EG2: average 315/75/16 tire makes 600 revs per mile. 600 x 4.56 = 2736 rpm, almost a dead match to 4.1/stock tire.

ARE YOU BORED YET?.........

Were the stock Michelins 265 or 275? I thought they had been 265.

Re: Christo can you post that RPM/gear ratio figur

275/70/16........Lots of people put 265's on as first replacements because most of the tire shops did not have or know of the 275's.......If I am not mistaken, the only vehicle to spec this tire is the Landcruiser........... ::)

Re: Christo can you post that RPM/gear ratio figur

Yo, I might be the one your looking for. I'm running 4.88s and 315s which is a 35" tire. If you're thinking of going with 33"s don't expect a top speed much past 65 mph and wringing the piss out of it at that. A ratio of 4.56 with 33 would be more in line with what I'm running now. And at that ratio it would be slightly lower than stock by about 5%.

Bump since it took me way to long searching on here to find a thread with transmission ratios in it.

Please remember 4:56's on 35's VS 4:88's on 35's is exactly a 100 RPM difference...believe me...I have had both set ups.

Very interesting - thanks for posting. I have 315s with 4.56 and my speedo is exactly accurate which makes sense since it nearly replicates the stock set up.

This is my lazy two part question to someone who likes figuring out such things (Cruiserdan perhaps;)):

So with 315s and 4.88s what percentage is the speedometer off by?

Would not that percentage be the same percentage that the odometer is off by?

Thanks,
Nick
