I gave up trying to check the timing on my '89 FJ62 the other day. I had a pro-grade timing light, and a cheapie and couldn't get either light to shine into the timing opening in the bell housing AND be able to see in there myself. I tried sighting down the valve cover, but spark plug wires, etc. were in the way. I have timed FJ40s and 60s, but the 62 is a special beast in this regard. There's just so much junk in the way...
What's the secret for where you put the light and where you put your head to see the marks?
Thanks - Steve
