It looks like they are super bright and project well, but how well do these illuminate the area seen out of the sideview mirrors?

Not the same thing.

Maybe you could rig up a toggle switch in the rear/cargo area and use them as temp camping lights. Atleast for looking for beers

But here is mine (no cheating.. I had my thumb over the flash). No other outside lights on, there was just a little moonlight but very dark out.
