Oh well. Thanks for the links.
:flipoff2:

Fun video. Funny how the stock unlocked 80, unlifted and with so-so tires for the desert keeps up with the others, after only a front end job. Had he thrown even 285 mudders on it, it would have performed better.

that was pretty cool

I showed this to my wife. She was impressed with what the truck can do but slightly dismayed when I mentioned we should do some offroading. Oh well

That sounds familiar:rolleyes:

Too bad that was in a regional forum, not the main 80 series forum. There are some really good threads in the other forums, but much less traffic and visibility.

Wow my bad. I didn't even notice that . How the heck did I find it as I didn't search for anything like that originally . Stumbled onto it somehow. Thanks for pointing that out...agreed much good info in the clubhouses.

They posted an updated write-up on what he did today: http://www.fourwheeler.com/events/1310-1993-toyota-land-cruiser-low-buck-cheap-truck-challenge-2013/

Other than wondering why he did cosmetic mods on this instead of something performance based, the only thing that caught my eye was this line, "First was a set of Daystar’s Cam Cans ($175) mounted inside the tailgate, one for water, another for storing anything from recovery gear to Oreo cookies." When I first read that it sounded like they were INSIDE the tailgate and I was wondering how well that would work (i.e. cheap replacement for the wagongear lid which I wish I could afford), but then I looked at the pic and he just surface mounted them to the tailgate inside the cab. Oh well. I will probably go with the inspection plates idea (or something similar) that Billy Skaggs has. I think if he should of thrown an aussie in the rear instead of the getting the winch.

He'd have been much better to

Buy better tires
Body lift
Locker (spartan/aussie) in the rear
build sliders instead of the bumper

but even then didn't do too bad.

I think the bad birfield did him in. $1000 of his budget was eaten up with that. Made his options limited. He didn't care about body damage, so sliders don't really matter in this case. Not sure why he spent money on paint though.
