After 10 yrs it broke again, but this time it was different.

I had it repaired by a local shop 10 mins walk away from my house!

Repair cost A$1350 and was done over a weekend.

There was a crack in front of the steering box on the outside of the chassis rail, the front panhard mount had partly cracked away where the original repair had been done, and the two upper bolt tubes for the steering box mounting had broken away. Now repaired with 6 mm steel plate on both sides, plus a gusset on the panhard mount as well.

Does this happen with LHD 80's or is it just a thing with the RHD ones?

Here are pics of the repairs.

It happens on LHD 80's also.

That repair job is 🔥

The cost is mostly in labour not materials because of the time needed to remove stuff for access, and the difficulty of access esp on the inside of the chassis rail. There's about 10 hrs of time involved.
