i'm really confused. i have seen conflicting photos of how the lines to a 1977 charcoal canister are connected. Should #1 in the photo be connected to #4? if so, what is #2 connected to?
lastly, should the line in the second photo just end inside a channel underneath the body?

On my truck that runs under the bed to a hard line with a large loop then back under rocker panel to the “to tank” fitting on Charcoal Canister.

My “loop” was toast so I made my own. I thought seriously about deleting it but figured it was there for a reason and can’t stand smell of strong gas fumes in cabin.

Yes.

if so, what is #2 connected to?

If it says "Purge" then it runs to the base of the carb often through a VCV controlled by your VSV. This is to burn up excess fuel vapors.

If it says "To Tank" it should be also routed under the body to the fuel separator.
