Changing to bigger tires, should we also change the spare?

I run LT285/70 R17 (<33”) with stock spare 285/60 R18 (<32”) I rarely, if ever, find myself more than 45 miles from civilization. 35 years driving without a complete blowout. I’m comfortable with this size spare to get me home if I can’t make it with onboard air in a slow leaker.

I’m sure others that trek far from the beaten path take a different approach.

Not a donut but I went with a 7.00x17 on a ~5" split rim off a HZJ79 I believe. It's very heavy but narrow and tall. Because of how high up it is I dont think it would be possible to hit it without other damage first

I'd like more info on this setup. I have a need for a "skinny" spare set up with the same diameter of my KO2s. I'm thinking about fabbing a spare tire holder to attach to the holes/brackets left over after the third seats were removed. It would hold the tire vertically in the cargo area like the old Broncos and Blazers held their spares. The LC spare location is taken up with a long range gas tank. I would use this setup for long trips where I couldn't put the spare on a trailer, etc.
