Changing AHC Globes

FYI. The easy way to remove the old globes is to take a hammer and sharp chisel to them. Just chisel them counter clockwise on the widest part of the globe and they will loosen up easily.
I’ve got one that won’t budge. 36mm will grip, but has about 1/4 inch to turn and can’t get enough leverage to bust it loose. Spent a good 5 minutes with the chisel today. Soaked it in PB again, will try chisel again tomorrow.

Even drilled a hole and jammed a screwdriver in there to try and crank for extra leverage. It’s just not budging yet.

I’m in the same boat. Have the driver’s side globe in front of the accumulator. I had accidentally rounded it with the fan clutch wrench going the opposite way (doh!), and then I tried a nylon strap wrench with sand paper which didn’t work. So I’ve been waiting to use the chisel and another strap wrench I bought.

Are you able to remove some things around it to gain more clearance?

My issue seems more to be that the two pieces are rusted firmly together. Took me crawling back up under there tonight with a really bright flashlight to inspect further. This really sucks. Have the other 3 out, all the bleeder valves out, and new globes/valves sitting on the table ready to go.

Not quite sure how to go about this one

You’ll definitely want to take the running board bracket off. Assuming that you don’t have the same issue of someone putting a rear glove on the front, you will have enough room and likely could even shimmy it out of the way, even with the bracket on.

Maybe repeated cycles of heat and penetrating oil with the above techniques will finally get it loose. Good luck!

I removed the running board bracket and frame weight to get more clearance. Just haven’t had a chance/time to tackle the last globe due to work etc
