I just received my exhaust manifolds back from HP coatings. Since I am in the middle of my HG PM I decided this to do this because of my prior experience using HPC to coat my TRD headers on the Tacoma. Lower under hood radiant heat with the S/C hanging over the front exhaust manifold is the main reason and the fact that it looks way better than the rust look when they came off. I had them coat the outside and the inside and they came out very nice!

I don't have any experience with ceramic coatings, but it looks great.

How does the inside coating hold up over time? Any flaking, peeling, chipping?

Looks good Scott, what did that set you back? I have an email into JETHOT for a quote on my manifold and turbo housing.

Thanks Rick, Total was $180 for cleaning and coating the inside and outside of both. I think that was a fair price especially knowing how long the coating has lasted in the Tacoma (7 years).

Thanks Crusher. I've had it 7 years on the Taco with no flaking or peeling. When I first coated the TRD headers, I compared underhood temps with a buddies Taco tha has the identical setup (non-coated headers, S/C etc.) and my temps were lower for the same drive time/route. I can't remember the #'s since it was long ago but the other benefit was that I have not had any cracking problems that have plagued these headers which my buddy and several other friends have had.

Nice.

Seems like a great upgrade to add to the budget when headwork is needed.

Lockd97 - Long term update? I'm thinking of doing this when I install my SC.

IME with ceramic coatings, there are benefits to coating the outside of the manifolds (increase velocity/decrease underhood heat), but the inside coating is usually gone within a few thousand miles. The downpipes could also benefit from the external coating.

I agree about the downpipes, especially with their long course through the engine bay. However, I've got the cats one after the other, so the cat is actually a part of the downpipe. Any idea if they can coat it with the cat still attached?

Rick, if you are thinking of having something ceramic coated I have had good luck with a local powder coating company in Clinton, MA. They did a great job on my 1FZFE valve cover and an intake manifold for a Suzuki Samurai. Incredible customer service.

Ceramic coating cats increases their efficiency actually, but need the highest heat barrier coating possible. IME with ceramic coatings, they look good, and can reduce underhood exhaust heat, but rarely if ever, increase engine performance. I do a lot of ceramic coating for folks that want it, but don't do it on exhaust stuff for my own toys. Too many gains to be had elsewhere IMO/E
