How do you guys adjust the tension on the " top cap" of the arm? On my '78, all I did was loosen the lock-bolt and turn the cap down a little until some resistance was felt, and then tighten the bolt. What's the right way? Thanks.
Loosen the lock screw, tighten it down tight, back off 1/4 turn, then tighten the lock screw. You might want to take it apart while you're fooling around to see what kind of rusty badness is living inside.
