I reciently opened up my dash, (thatks to my local stereo thief) and had access to the non-switched center diff lock, so I pushed the dash slug and plan to pick up a switch.
I am new to the 80 series cruisers, having had many 60s and 62s and a 40 or two. My question is this......what will installing this swich do for me? I am unfamiliar with such accessories or comforts having had the old school cruisers.

Thanks for all info

I had similar confusions when I got my LX450 and was given a great link:

Essentially, when in High you have an All Wheel drive. Power is applied to all 4 wheels, but there are 3 differentials that are not locked that allow the wheels and front and rear axles to run a different speeds (like turns, etc.). In your current configuration, when you put the rig into LO using the Shift that only goes into Lo and Hi, your center differential will lock tieng the power to the front and rear axles together (Think 4WD like you are use to). This is only available in LO. What the CDL switch does, is allow you to "Lock the front and Rear axles in High so you can be in 4WD and drive at faster speeds.

The AWD without it being locked is fine for dry pavement because the axles are not "locked".

wile you are installing the switch look into the pin 7 mod, this disables the "lock CDL in Low" behavior so you have complete control.

In2Cruisers,

Look up the pin-7 mod by searching the archives. Once you install the CDL switch and do the pin-7 mod, you will have full control over the locking and unlocking of the center differential.
