commin outta the gas station today and all of a sudden she wouldnt go anymore, no drive to wheels and the sound commin from the center diff sounded a 15yr old learning to drive a manual trans, griding and popping and all that. tried low gear, still wouldnt go, locked the center diff and she went so i limped her home with the center diff locked.

my first thought was the whole center diff was gone but when it moved with it locked i was stumped, any ideas? thanks guys

mine did the same, and my drive flanges were stripped

x75 on the drive flanges. Easy fix.

Almost certainly drive flange(s).

I have also seen an inner axle shaft (front) fail driving around town. but it did not make much noise at all.
