Anyone have a problem with them not fitting in the bushings or your shackels?

I have a 77 FJ40. I measured the old ones and they are .56" and the ccot ones measure .62". My old bolt fits great on my new bushings which leads me to think that CCOT is at fault. I emailed ccot and asked what's up.

I even tried craming them in with an impact wrench with no luck.

Which don't they fit, the bushings or the shackles? Bushings come in a lot of different IDs/ODs. Are the shackles stock or aftermarket? There are subtle differences between different brands of aftermarket shackles. Some are drilled for metric bolts and some are drilled for SAE bolts.

SOR has good info on shackle/bushing dimensions:

both(shackels and bushings)I think the shackels would be stock hole size seening that the new bushing that are made for fj40 up to 80 fit perfect on the old bolts.

Well, if you look at ccot's ad, it says 5/8" for aftermarket shackles. I think the stock bolts and bushings are 15mm (about 9/16").

You can file or drill out the stock shackles and bushings, buy 5/8" shackles and bushings, or some combination of the two. It's OK to enlarge bushings and shackles slightly. I've known people to freeze bushings in order to make the drilling easier.

This is just one of those things about buying aftermarket parts for a Land Cruiser. You have to research it the best you can, expect that some things won't work out exactly as planned, and be flexible. I have my own experiences in this going back about 30 years. Just part of the game.

Good Luck,
Todd Bull.

yeah I did drill out the the shackles a little, and i'm going to buy new bushings. I just over reacted some cause I just thought that the ccot 5/8" was the stock size, because it says for 58-7/80.

I had to drill out my shakles........ took them to the machine shop and had it done nice and neat

I lubed up the bushings real well, used a big rachet and a lot of elbo grease and got it all together.

I also had to modify my greaseable pins to make them fit

Have you replaced your shackle bolts lately?

Wes - Why did you rush into it? You had a good 10 years left on those shackle bolts!

I avoid anything small and weak.....

Especially greasable shackle bolts, call it strange.....I think the stock metric is small, and then why would you want to make it smaller with a hole in it? I run .75" bolts, I made the bushings on the lathe out of a very dense natural rubber. I hate breaking things on the trail and those little bolts with the hole in em' just look like a target to me.

Just installed a 4" HFS lift and HD greaseable shackles last Saturday Faster than George Mason was knocked out of the Final Four. ;)

Bolts were tight in the bushings....a little lube and a good impact, and they were home....nothing new.
