I used to see military trucks (jeeps or HMMWV) with a whip that were bent down and clipped to the roof. I am guessing it was unclipped when stationary.
Just a random idea, but besides looking super tacticool, do you think a 108" whip done up like that would actually function well enough to be used while clipped/tied down? At look least in comparison to something like a 3' or 4' firestik that is mounted to a fender or rear hatch? I would think the radiation pattern would be wonky, but would the 108" length, coupled with the partial vertical bits, offset that?

My understanding is that some of the whip antennas are meant to be used in the clipped down position as part of a NVIS strategy. NVIS being used for HF communications in the 200-300 mile range.
