Catalytic Conv. stolen. Stuck 2000 miles from home in “Limp Mode”!

We made it home. Its at Toyota Dallas. There is no ETA at all for the parts. Tundra owners are waiting 3 months. That Toyota Dealership in small town Wisconsin could get them all in 5 days. But Texas is for some reason limited to the Gulf States supply chain. I just took the wraps off my 37 year old FJ60 that hasnt been getting much use. Protect your Catalytic Converters. Now!

I wonder if the Texas dealership would be open to you sourcing your own parts given the delay. Especially since you're bringing them Toyota parts. Can you get in touch with Wisconsin dealership and get your hands on them?

Davenport Motor Company in Plano is a great independent Toyota/Lexus shop, maybe you could get quicker service with them.

If they don’t. Find a dealer that will, IMO

Yes. But it would likely cost more than I want to pay in shipping.

I can understand that. I know it's not feasible for most, but replacing this section with the proper factory part is fairly low on my banana scale. If there is anyone you trust locally, you should definitely reach out

Also if you go outside that toyota service department for parts insurance may not cover it.

Oh yeah, Insurance. Disregard my post.

Well my insurance, USAA, will not only pay for the permanent repairs, but i am pretty sure they will pay for the aftermarket, temporary repairs necessary to get is home.

I am someone who always strongly prefers OEM parts. I too didnt have much respect for dumb old exhaust parts. But after going through all this, i have a lot more respect for what the catalytic converters and sensors do. I definitely want OEM replacements. I dont want anything less. Performance, gas mileage, range, reliability and the environment are just that important. And the replacement Flowmasters are one unit per side instead of 2.

The service is slow only because of the supply chain on many parts, particularly this one. I have heard very good things about Davenport.

I wonder if someone will come up with a motion sensor placed under the vehicle…and if it senses motion while car is off, then it activates the alarm system. No need for armor. No need to drill holes into frame/body to install protection plates etc..

Take it to the bank!

Yet another reason I’d want to wipe out whatever species of bird is the grackle.

Yep, video on YouTube repurposing some home alarm items to do this.

I wonder how big a problem cat theft is for land cruisers. Most trucks are parked in garages at night. I can’t fathom having a cat problem 2000 miles from home. I guess I’ll park my truck overnight with the ahc on low.

I read that Land Cruisers and Prius will deliver more platinum than most other cats will.

I just spoke with Budbuilt.
They should have a plate released within the month for just protecting the catalytic converter.
Sounds promising.

Though I don’t know why the transmission skid plate wouldn’t work to protect the cat.
(she explained but I didn’t get it)

Perhaps the transmission skid plate is just more expensive than necessary if one isn’t looking for off-road armor.

Yes, I ordered these over the transmission skid.. Not a skid plate but a stainlesss theft deterrent. approx cost is somewhere around $450..

Pictures attached.. Bud is starting to build these starting this week...
