I wonder if the race turned in there somehow it would change your castor. I don't think a race would ever turn but you never know.
 
you may end up with inner axel seal problems using these offset bearings as the axel will be moved slightly off centre and run hard on one side of the seal
 
If you use them in pairs as intended and in opposite directions on top and bottom then you won't change the center of the knuckle with respect to the axle.
 
No experience with them in the 80's but we do see them (albeit rarely) on older Land Cruisers. I've actually got a take-out set on my desk as paper weights. The downside is reduced bearings size on an already small bearing... I don't think they are going to fail overnight but X% more premature wear then the factory size. That said, for 3* caster increase without losing pinion angle... a good option for some.
