From what I was told the 18+ LC's went to a Capacitive Screen from a Resistive screen on the previous years
There is that Australian company making the piggyback module. From their website it seems that change was made with or around the '16 model.

It's not a standard double-din headunit and are HVAC controls built into it. No, there is no easy solution.
I get that, it's been a problem for the Land Cruiser for about 20 years. I was just desperately thinking that since the dash is the same from '16 to '20, a retrofit might be possible. Although expensive. I don't know where the entune "lives".

It's in the headunit somewhere.

I would be very surprised if that fits US LandCruisers.

First, it probably comes with HEMA maps for Australia, which won't do us much good here in the US. Second, Australia gets multiple trim levels of 200s. Most of the 200s sold in Australia have much less content than we get and a different headunit. Third, $3600 Australian dollars for the parts alone, and if that headunit isn't compatible with our wacky JBL speakers, then you're on the hook for even more money.

If someone wants to be the guinea pig, I'd love to see how it works for you.

I think you are stating the obvious facts (which is fine) I wasn't professing that this was plug-n-play for US models, just showing that some manufacturers are addressing the issues in the aftermarket.

Alpine is making progress into specific vehicle solutions (and has been). They supply link modules programmed for specific vehicles to maintain aux displays (like TPMS , cameras etc) as well as vehicle specific mounts. In the US market its limited to Tacoma, Camry etc. No LC option here, not surprising since Toyota sells about 5 Land Cruisers a year here. As usual (late 100 Series), the USA climate control interface is a challenge that even the Alpine doesn't address.

There is always the "Tesla" display option from the various Chinese Brands.

I suspect that replacing the headunit for the low-spec Land Cruiser in Australia is a much different kettle of fish than replacing the headunit in our top-spect LC. Toyota sells something like 14,000 Land Cruisers per year in Australia (though I'm not sure how that is broken down by 200 vs 70).

Called Toyota and the dealership. No plans to update it.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If enough of us calls Toyota and voice our concern about their flagship vehicle lacking carplay compared to their lower end models, we might be able to convince Mr. T to do something about it.

The problem is most of us already own landcruisers. They are much more concerned with what will sell new ones, and even then they don’t sell many. With a complete redesign coming in a year or two I’m betting this will not happen at all through toyota proper.

Yes I agree that most of us already own one but most of us are repeat customers. Toyota understands that the LC have a cult following.

Toyota already has plans to do something about it — the 300 will have CarPlay.

They aren’t going to create a retrofit kit for the small population of 200s.

And I doubt this mistake on their part will deter a significant number of 300 buyers.. after all those will have it.

So we're not gonna drive around with our phone on our lap, hoping the cord is a good retrieval system? With a bunch of the HVAC built into the system, it's hard to change. I have the same problem on another car I own, really limits your options.

I have a magnetic mount for my phone on the dash, up high near the steering wheel.

I have been in talks with Beat Sonic about their Apple CarPlay retro kit... they stated they are trying to locate LC's in the Cali area for testing if anyone is around and willing to give them a shout.
