Nice! We were in vegas couple weeks ago with my in-laws and rented a 2019 Sienna with carplay. It got alot of use displaying waze, google maps, etc. I would love to have it on my 19 LC.

Anyone know what entune version the Camry/Sienna has? If it's the same as the LC then we will probably get it. I know they roll out different versions every couple of years as it differed on my '13 and '19. Hopefully the versions match the newer LC versions...

quick search and the vehicles that have entune 3.0 is the camry, sienna, mirai and corolla. My guess is they will be the only ones that will get this option. Unfortunately.

Curious where you came across this info, or if it's more a hunch. I'd love to get Carplay on my 200 but I cannot find anything online that suggests the upgrade is available for the LC.
Fingers crossed means that hopefully it’s included. But it’s not, since this post I verified with my dealer and it won’t be.

When I took delivery of my 2019 LC in June, I contacted Entune tech support. They advised the 2019 version cannot be upgraded to handle CarPlay. It makes no sense that Toyota’s premium vehicle has a lesser system than their entry level vehicles, but it all has to do with each model’s update roadmap. The 2019 LC has a lesser version of Entune than a 2018 Camry.

Seems like Toyota only adopted Carplay after they were forced to do it. They are the last major manufacturer to add it to their lineup, it's been missing for years. Even Lexus' best selling RX hasn't had it until May of this year (a 200 dollar update for 2018/2019 models, finally available on 2020 MY).

My Mazda that I just bought has it available in a higher trim level, but I'm cheap and got the base AWD model so I still use my vent mount, does everything I need.

I think it was all about the ownership of the data. Toyota didn't want Google and Apple to own all that data coming from the usage of CarPlay and Android Auto. Toyota wanted to own that data. But the reality is that Toyota can't build a UI as well as Google and Apple. CarPlay and Android became something that buyers expect, so Toyota needs Google and Apple more than Google and Apple need Toyota.

So Toyota finally realized that they made a bad call. Now they are working to catch up. They didn't have enough engineering resources to fix all car lines at once, so they had to prioritize. Seeing as how Toyota sells ~400,000 Camry's per year in the US versus 3,000 Land Cruisers, it makes sense that they chose to do the Camry before the Land Cruiser. That sucks for us Land Cruiser folks, but it was the right decision for Toyota.

Will never happen in the 200 series. This beast has been out too long and the version of the infotainment system cannot be upgraded for APC or AA. That’s the downfall of having the 200 series out so long. Will be available when the 300 series is out, but who knows when that will be and what other changes there will be. Definitely frustrating when cheaper Toyota’s have been redesigned and have this option.

Exactly. That’s what the Entune folks basically said.

The Toyota guy at LCDC answered this question and referenced the Camry and Sienna and said IF 200s have the ability to upgrade it would probably only be late 2018s and 2019s. At least that's what I recall him saying.

Upgradeability is completely dependent on the Entune version of your vehicle. Models that have more recent Entune versions, even if they're "cheaper" models, will be eligible to upgrade. A 2019 LC has an earlier Entune version than a 2018 Camry, as the LC hasn't been refreshed since 2016. It's counterintuitive to me, but that's how Toyota went to market and we have to live with it.

we have to live with it.

And you can’t change the entune the truck came with? It isn’t just a modular CPU in the dash you could unplug, or even the head unit? Grasping at straws here.

From what I was told the 18+ LC's went to a Capacitive Screen from a Resistive screen on the previous years so there may be some differences but I do not know for sure.

I know BeatSonic is working on offering Apple CarPlay for entunes 2.0 & 2.5 but for now the LC is not included in that since they have not done any testing on them.

It's not a standard double-din headunit and are HVAC controls built into it. No, there is no easy solution.
