You guys are creative, I'm wondering what's in your heads that my own imagination and Google haven't solved for me. I have a Porta Boat which, when laid on its side, takes up about 50% of my Baja Rack. That leaves me ~24" of width inside the rack of free space.

The seats, oars, transom and electric motor for the boat are carried in a separate gunny sack. Interior space of my 80 is at a premium (kids, other equipment) so I want to put all that in the roof rack in a weatherproof/locking box. From a physical dimension standpoint, this cargo box is the only one I've found that is perfectly suited for the job but she's pricey. I could obviously use that cargo box for just about anything so before possibly pulling the trigger, I thought I'd ask this crew if you've got any other ideas or suggestions.

I've looked at numerous other plastic boxes, rifle carrying cases and yes Craigslist. The Inno cargo box linked is the only I've found that "fits".

Any other ideas?

thx guys....

These are very nice, getting pricey now days but still worth the price IMHO

@rusty_tlc - yup, I've seen those and agree that those are great. That said, I'm trying to find a container that just fits inside my rack (24" width and 70" length maximum dimensions) so as to maximize interior storage volume. I do snowboard and intend to also just throw boots/boards inside whatever I come up with so the alum boxes you've got doesn't fit my needs.

Keep 'em coming!

@Corbet - another good one! Same deal, the largest rectangular box appears to be just too small for what I'm looking at. Thx!!!

if you want to put skis/snowboards inside a box I think your stuck with the Thule/yakima type box offerings. Not that they are bad but I personally don't like wheeling with my Thule box unless its full of super light sleeping bag type stuff. Its mount to the load bars is not a secure as I'd like for rough terrain. Allowing to much flex in the actual box. Just my .02

I use the lightest aluminum truck type tool box I could find on my rack. They come in several sizes, have locks, open several ways, weather proof, and are made from aluminum.

I remove mine when not needed.

Easy and works well for me.

You night want to keep looking on the surplus sites, military boxes were made in all different sizes and shapes. I have a couple of these that a friend gave me when he moved.
