First time poster here, just reaching out to see if anyone can give me some guidance.

My 60 has been off the road since July of last year. I just got it back from a shop after a number of months and my issue(s) are not resolved.

I’ve tried finding a factory replacement carb but all I seem to come across are Webers. I’d also like it desmogged. It looks to be beyond my capabilities but it’s looking like I may have to roll my sleeves up and just dive in on this one, because no one seems to want to work on the truck.

Not really sure what else to say, again first time posting so please don’t drag me too hard! I searched “FJ60 carburetor” in the search bar but figured it would be better just to post.

@FJ40Jim of A Toyota Land cruiser specialist with parts and service - https://tlcperformance.com/ is pretty well known for cleaning up and nicely rebuilding the stock carb for LC's. There are some other rebuilders on the forum as well. The desmog isn't so hard to do and there are different levels of completeness to do it....everywhere from completely removing and plugging every possible related component to just simply plugging couple of things, removing a few vacuum lines, and swapping out the smog pump for an idler pulley.

There is this option for carbs which some folks have had success with:

Since you are looking to desmog anyway, and this carb is designed for use with a desmogged truck, you might kill two birds with one stone.

I believe this is the guide most everyone still goes by for desmogging a stocker 2F:

I would suggest you get the desmog bits from JimC as noted above:

As mentioned by @Seth S above:

Air Pump Idler pulley, 79-80 Fed 2F with PS - https://tlcperformance.com/products/air-pump-idler-pulley-79-80-2f-with-ps

There is prolly other stuff needed.

Having a desmogged truck done by the PO, I can say I wish I still had all the smog bits intact on mine. I had to get some parts back on mine to make it run better from where the PO removed them. Gathering those parts up isn't that easy to do in some regards. Just would have been nice to see it factory to know what it ran like before the PO got in and messed with it. GL and HTH.

Buy this, rip every smog hose out

run one from the carb to distributer

mess with timing slightly or have Jim recurve it and your done

Haha we were right on it

Also before you go chasing after carb's its very likely that you have gasket leaks and/or vacuum hose leaks which could be the real culprits to your running or not running problems. A brand new OEM perfect in every way carb still will run like poo if the base gasket is blown out or the insulator is cracked or there are hoses off or the PCV hose has a leak etc etc.

Not really sure what else to say

So maybe go into what the problem actually is here. What are the issues? Won't start, won't idle, etc. Whats keeping this truck off the road?
