HI All,

I have a 1975 2F Fj40, stock carb. I rebuilt it a few years ago but still have problems with getting a good idle and acceleration.

I got fed up with tinkering myself and decided to bring my rig to a mechanic. The mechanic believes there is something wrong with my carburetor and asked me to source a new one. Therefore does anyone know of a outfit that will take my carb and rebuild it who is a trusted vendor here on MUD?

Regards,
Chris

@FJ40Jim does carb rebuilds. If you are not opposed to installing an aftermarket carb that is virtually identical to your OEM one, @Trollhole and @Racer65 both offer brand new bolt-on carbs for the 2F for about the same price as a rebuild.

Both these guys do outstanding work with reps to match.
I would go with the guy that can get it done the soonest, as both usually have a waiting list.

My opinion is to get the stock carb rebuilt before buying an aftermarket one. Although the aftermarket ones are getting fairly good reviews.

And if you have the ability, buy an aftermarket one and use it as a spare while the original OEM carb is being rebuilt. Thus, when it comes back all nice and cleaned-up, install the OEM Aisan and have an aftermarket for a spare. No cruiser driving down time...:hillbilly:

Heard great things about both. JimC rebuilt and flow tested mine; it purrs!!! He comes highly reccomended!!!!

Mark’s Offroad (65swb45) rebuilt my stock 1970 carburetor and I wouldn’t have let anyone else do it. Highly recommend. However, always hear good things about JimC on IH8MUD.

So many possibilities.
Poor idle quality could be: manifold leak, carb problem, ignition.
Acceleration could be: carb or ignition or wiped cam.

A '75 is a great carb when properly built, but 75 also has terrible manifolds that are almost guaranteed to warp & leak, and a vacuum retard dissy that can adversely affect off idle performance.

You can contact TLC Performance at the website in my sig for further info.
