Forgive my ignorance, but what is the purpose of the carb cooling fan? Do i really need need this fan to be working on a 78FJ40?

Thanks

Steel:

When working normally, the fan will come on after you shut the motor off and will run for a half-hour or so to prevent the hot engine from percolating the fuel out of the float bowl. For about the first 5 years that I owned my 78 FJ40 mine never worked and I was in Arizona for part of that time. Without it you may have to crank it over a few more times to get fuel into the bowl.

I don't have one on my 77, and I don't remember having one on my 73. Am I missing something here?

77 should have had one. But I run my fj45 with 77 2f without one with no issues. I think it's more an issue if you still have all the smog crap on, if de-smoged I suspect it's not really needed.

Thanks, I know some of the smog stuff was taken off the engine because I can see some of the stuff caped and a mechanic told thats what was there. I did pass emissions with no issues though.
