Just go my carb back from Mark the other day and put it on this morning and spent some time trying to get the 55 running again. However I cant get it to idle for more then 10-15 seconds and it dies. It also wont idle without being fully choked, there is occasional backfiring but nothing major. I adjusted the dizzy all around without any improvment. I also adjusted the idle mixture and idle speed screws without any positive results. It seemed like the idle speed was actually working revearse of what it should when I tightened it to allow the accel linkage to lift up it actually idled lower and then didnt idle at all. So if anyone has any suggestions let me hear it also if I didnt describe it good enough tell me and I'll talk some more.

Is there 12v going to the idle solenoid?

Does it click when you turn the key to the on position?

Where is your vacuum leak? ;)

Yes its vented, I dont think its a fuel problem there is plenty of it in the carb. Tomorrow doesnt work though we have a baseball game so I'll be tailgating and cheering on the tigers.

new info

Ok so I finally got the cruiser to idle now. It was idling fairly well but it wont hold idle unless the carb is at least 1/2 way choked. I only got it to idle with no choke for about 20sec. It also is backfiring a lot more now pretty much the whole time especially if I rev it.

With the truck running, since you said it will, spray Gummout carb and choke cleaner around the OUTSIDE of the carb at the base where it meets the manifold, also spray that around the intake where it meets the head, and any other little vacuum ports/etc on the manifold....

When your engine RPM's increase from you spraying this solvent on the areas of the manifold, you can narrow down where you have a leak....

Good luck!

clemson55: you don't have the high-altitude jet in there do you? otherwise search for leaks.
good luck, carl

Pre to Post

How was it functioning before you sent if off?

It pretty much didnt function before being sent off hence me sending it to Mark. It will be a couple days before I can work on it again but I'll try these things and get back to it.
