I have a 1987 Canadian Spec HJ60, its obviously a 24v starting system, but I am wondering if it switches over to a 12v operating system after startup?

I looked into this as well, I am doing a HJ-60 drive train transplant into FJ-60 and thought that would be an easy answer to the conversion. Choices were Have just the drive train run 24v and run everything south 12v. OR Source edic, relays, Alt, starter etc from OZ or S. America OR swap out (everything)(wiring harness, relays, lights, motors)..everything that uses electric to 24v. After talking to many auto electric guys....I settled on the last. "if it runs great now dont F%#k with it" "if you have a problem down the road you wont know where to look"

I have a 1982 toy p/u dlx (1Ldiesel), it has 2 batteries and runs 12v. Often pondered wether it is a 24v start/12v run, or whether it simply has an isolator. I guess I'll find out when I drop the 2LT in it...

I dont recall seeing a 24v system on any lux. It would b stamped on the starter somewhere

Not a Hilux, this is a US market model, apparently the only diesel model that Toyota ever sold in the US. The DLX stands for "deluxe", absolutely nothing "deluxe" about it. Found it by chance on autotrader, 79,000mi no rust, a rare find. The 1L is only 63hp, it can barely get out of its own way (the gutless wonder), it does get about 45mpg.
