Wow, it would have to be a matter of life and death for me to try that - like tsunami in progress. Perhaps it meant freedom from an area cut off from civilization that was going to last for weeks for these folks. But if it was just a storm and the water's going to drain down in a day or three, that's a lot of damage to the vehicle to sustain.

I've driven my 80 through moderately-flowing flood water over a bridge with the depth at about 0.7 m (just over 2 feet) but that was a rather extreme event back in 2013. The water level went up to 2.4 m over the bridge and didn't come back down for well over a week. Now the same part of Australia is in a massive drought with massive bushfires.
