I really like the step (in red) that came with the 40 but have removed it to add a pintle. I would like to put it back on but the welded-on hitch is in the way. Does anybody have a tool for easily separating the hitch from the step?

No problem, might have to cut some welds.

Very common "era modification" from back when your truck was new.

Sometimes these things are bastards to get off.

Pintle is the cool way to go, Toyota pintle is the super cool way to go...

My neighbor has one on his Saudi Arabian Gulf Spec 100 series...along with the HUGE "LAND CRUISER" chrome graphic on the side.

PS I don't see any leaks.

Glad that you were able to find a competent mechanic!

Actually, that's an OLD pic from when I first got it. That was when the leaks weren't too bad. Then they got worse, and now they're better again. :D

So, you got sumpin' I can cut that thang off?

grey, If you plan to wheel the cruiser, the whole step will eventually come off. Either from the numerous hits it'll take, or from you removing it to avoid further hits.

It's one of the first things I took off mine. I use the bumperettes to stand on, but that will change whenever I get a rear bumper/tire carrier.

2x on the pintle.

If you have to have it on, head over to HomeDepot and buy some 4.5" diam 1/16" cutting wheels for your grinder and have at it.

Yeah, I never thought about the wheeling thing, but since I'll be stock for a while (lack of sufficient funds), I'd like to put it back on mosty for aesthetic reasons. I don't have a grinder (yet), so I was hoping to shamelessly borrow somebody's in the meantime.

If you've got 17 hours to spare....you can use my dremel:D

If your FJC doesn't have a hitch, you may want to keep it on. It could come in handy for smaller trailers, like for trash runs, hay rides, and hauling my bike if I ever go down again...

And Herb, if you use fiberglass wheels instead of those too easy to break cutoff discs, you can trim that 18 hours down to 8.

....but I need time to think. If things get done too quickly, I'll screw something up!

I've got an angle grinder you can use, but it's a long way to my place just to cut that off.

Thanks Felix. I drive by your house all the time, watching, and waiting ... :D

I'll contact you when I'm ready to tackle that sucker. I'll bring the beer and we can start cutting. Hey, let's make it a Tech Day!!!

If you have time on Sat. you can come over to my place and we can cut it off. I have the tools.
