Are you talking about those 3 ports?

My head has partnumber 60034, it's from a euro-spec F.5 built in 10/1973.

I have no idea what is supposed to be the usage of the center one, I only discovered it following the restoration. It's very hard to see it once the engine is in running condition, you have a very narrow angle to see it between the carb, airbox and valves cover, and it's always in the shadow.

@ToyotaMatt

My Jan '73 F engine (US Spec FJ40LVA) has the same three ports: heater supply, water temp gauge, emissions system temperature sending unit.

thanks a million !

i guess the jury has decided ?

odd iv see a 2F USA spec with ONLY 2 ports ?

I believe they moved the emissions thermal valves to the thermostat housing, possibly for more consistent readings, or, it's easier and cheaper to drill and tap an aluminum casting than the cast iron head.

My euro 74 so has the 3 ports on the head but also has this thermo valve on the thermostat housing. It's on the way of the vacuum advance but not too sure how/when it supposed to work (and even less if it's still working).

When I had looked in the EPC for those valves it seems they were fitted on euro trucks with the F engine but were removed with the 2F.

My GCC Spec 2F also has the three ports on the head. My engine has a 1984 serial number.

My US 2/78 head has three ports. Stamped 61031. Never could figure out why the extra port was there as I've got multiple thermo switches on the thermostat housing.

its a ODD Topic indeed , i can't find or conclude any direct or indirect pattern yet ?

but the more folks that reply here in this tech thread we WILL find out sooner or later i promises :)

the MORE threaded ports a land cruiser F or 2F or 3F for that matter has the more options are possible like HOLY SNIPER temp sender stand alone circuit

a separate in dash temp gauges like a auto meter for example

a HEATER update or simple NON-USA upgrade to a truck that never came with a heater of any kind ?

MY Columbia SPEC. FJ43L-KC 1983 was a heater less truck from day one , however had the 4 captured spot welded nuts to mount the main heater core box center dash

and

the 4 spot nuts roughed in for a CENTER CONSOLE type late modle 82-85 rear heater too .......

NO fire wall removable service panel though , i had to create a paper template and CUT with a wing and a prayer , it came out prefect i got lucky !

MY original NO SMOG cylinder head had the 2nd threaded port for the optional USA spec. heater circuit , but NO 3rd port center behind carb ? 🤔

if i did i would absolutely add a engine bay under hood status temp gauge for sure a YAZAKI brand 52mm in a 3 gauge POD along with a 2nd mechanical oil gauge

and a 3rd , maybe a Vacuum gauge ot H55F trans GEAR oil temp KUSTOM gauge ?

would be PHUN to monitor too for kicks ! :D
