Folks, Rhea and I are doing our first big camping trip to Assateague in many years and hope that you can join us. For the uninitiated, Assateague is a lot of fun and a lot of work.
The work is keeping the sand off, keeping the bugs from biting, and keeping the sun from burning you and your children.
The fun is warm water, sparse crowds, potentially spectacular weather, horses on the beach, surfing, fishing, driving your truck on the beach, wonderful birding, fires on the beach, beer, laughter, etc.
They also have beach access for your truck, which is very expensive and I have never taken advantage of it.
We have site 62 reserved in the walk-in loop. These are sites where you park your vehicle and carry your supplies 50-100 yards to your site. There are also traditional sites where you can camp where you park your vehicle.
Check it out here Assateague Island National Seashore (U.S. National Park Service). Every weekend in September is already booked, so if you are contemplating going, I suggest getting your site soon. It is a lot of fun and I hope you all can join us.
