So after 13 hard years in the Northeast, the rubber parts on the brake calipers are looking rather sorry. The brakes still work fine and there are no leaks, but should I be considering pre-emptive servicing to prevent any problems on the road? Rebuild the old calipers or put on a new set all around?

I would never bother rebooting pistons in a steel toyota caliper. By the time you take them out I'd almost believe it's a question of how much rust, not if. If you've never done it before you should sometime. But I'm old and it's easier to buy reman loaded calipers and send back for core charge. There's nothing fancy about these.

Ebay, new pair of calipers for $150. Thats for the PAIR.

I have rebuilt mine on my 2000 but then its a west coast truck and no rust in caliper bores.

Napa auto parts sells a rebuilt caliper that is very high quality for the money

I know that NAPA rebuilt units have a good reputation.

I ended up buying OEM new for way too much $$$. If anyone wants to fool around with my old ones let me know (both front end). Otherwise one of these days i will return them for a core charge, i heard one auto parts store does it even if you didn't buy reman from them. Are the rebuilt ones that good? they were like 1/3 the price of what i spent.

Bumping an older thread because I've been searching. Most of what I've found is a few years old and I know suppliers have changed over time.

I'll be looking to replace my two rear calipers as one has completely seized. I don't have the time to mess with a rebuild and new OEM are just out of the question. NAPA is now selling calipers for these trucks by a "Total Eclipse" brand. Does anyone know if these are still trustworthy products?

Additionally, I'll be doing all pads and rotors at the same time. I really have a preference for ceramics for the low dust and fade resistance on long hills (I'm on a lot of them often). I've read the OEM pads are ceramic, but not positive. I was thinking to go with this kit, which is all made in USA and has a lifetime warranty: Cross-Drilled Brake Kits

I found some general reviews for other makes/models and they seemed to be OK. Anyone had experience with them on a 100?

Lastly, with 250K on the original set of OEM brake lines, is it worth the extra coin to get the stainless replacements vs OEM? Best vendor for each?

I bought the napa ones for my rears about 6 months ago. So far so good. I'm no caliper expert, but they looked as good as the OEM ones I had on there. When I did some research at the time people seemed to think they were reman'd OEMs

Just bought the semi loaded Eclipse from NAPA a month ago. I think they were $60 each plus core. The rears were shot and no movement from guide pins. They looked like very good quality and easier than a rebuild.

Ill be buying fronts next week.

Go for it.

Sweet. Glad there's a quality box-store option.

Any thoughts on the pad/rotor kit I linked? The price is quite appealing, especially given that they're domestically made and have a lifetime warranty on them.

I never used those, and it looks like a good price. I guess if they dont your truck they suck...

They either work or not....

We'll find out. I pulled the trigger last night. In the research I did do, it looks like their service department is on point and quick to respond to any concerns. Worst case, I know the parts I have on the truck now 'work', and could always swap them in if needed.

Now to figure out this friggin' ABS error I'm getting...

I used NAPA calipers for my FJ, and had them seize regularly once a year. Although they were very good in warranty replacements, I am planning on using OEM parts to service the calipers on the LX myself the next time, just to see if there is any difference in the quality that offers a better service life.

Well nuts. Hopefully this isn't the case with the LX.
