I did some extensive searching on this. There are a couple floating around that you can purchase, but they are not very good.
I'd be interested in doing this.

Really? cool, there are some good drawings from the collision repair manual for the major body parts and frame body openings etc with dimensions.
I cannot do much in 2d cad much less 3d but can defiantly see the value in having something like that for those that can,
I am not Davis but a general overall body shape with more details / specifics around where the frame rails and body meet the bumpers so one could play with bumper ideas would be really cool.
It would take many many hours to make something like that from scratch though?
could you (or someone) post up a page from the collision repair manual for the bumper, if it has the dimensions it could be useful for designing a custom bumper in solidworks before welding it together.
If you are going to take the time to custom fab a bumper, or anything else for the matter, why not buy an FSM? You will be spending many man-hours and money to get this done. And for the price of an FSM, it would seem careless and inefficient not to own one.

oh i thought there was a seperate body manual that had a bunch of the dimensions for things including the bumper. i have the fsm just thought we were talking about another manual.
I guess its not a huge deal, one could take the bumper off and get the important dimensions and rough dimensions.

I have a friend that works at a shop with a Faro Laser Scanner with 10ft arm. They charge me $75/hour to use their system.
What parts do you need modeled? I can get an estimate of how long it would take to scan and model. I have my fzj80 that I can bring to their shop and laser scan specific parts. If it's for commercial purposes, then the $75/hr is much less than the $125/hr that he charges his normal customers.
I use http://www.geomagic.com/en/products/studio/demos/index.php and SoildWorks 2006 (I'm not going to SW2007 for a few months, I'll let them get the big bugs out first).

I was mainly looking for a solid mass (exterior shape) and a frame
the frame I can do though.
I’m planning on modeling a bumper to bumper + roof rack and slider Exo.
If I can find a couple accurate 2D views I could model a 3D one from them.
I f you are modeling something small you can take a pic of it, scale it
in CAD using a known dim. and do your drafting on top.

One possible issue I see is, year/body. I have a 91 FJ80 so what years are the body
and model the same/ similar. Of course trim, grills, door handles, rear window slider and such are not important to me.
Get a quote on the price and let us know. Can you do a quick scan say 1/16” resolution?

I'm not sure if your talking to me (or pulse98), but I have no way of getting this done. I was referring to pulse98's comment about him possibly being able to get this done for $75/hour. I definitely cannot get it done where I work. The faro arm that I saw was just a demonstration (we didn't buy it), and only a very small arm at that. It was meant for small parts, like 20 inches or so, max.
As far as the differences in body/year, I think its only the fender flares that are different (smaller 91,92; and bigger 93+). It might be a big deal if you were to design an exo skeleton around the flares... Not sure how much they differ.

Your best option is to get the electronic versions of all the manuals for your 91. It will cost you a $10 TIS subscription and about an hour of your time. NaterGator has posted an easy dl process for all years of LC and LX.
There are body repair manuals that will probably have accurate measurements. I am pretty sure there is a detailed frame drawing with dimensions somewhere. I'll look at my manuals and post back....

The manual that appears to be the best resource will be the Body Repair Manual. It also has 2 detailed frame drawings with precise measurements. The BRM has precise measurements for the body openings but not the individual body panels. I am guessing they don't think you need the panel measurements because you will be buying replacement panels in a repair.

I don't think any of the factory manuals will do you any good with the body because they do not appear to be computer renderings; rather, they appear to be hand-drawn images. All of the Toyota manuals seem to be done the same way and upon close inspection, they are not accurate. The frame might be a better though.
If it were my project, I would try to get the guy with the laser arm thingie to do a perfect scan of a real truck. That would be so kewl to share with everyone.

The views I need to make a rough 3d model are front, back, left or right, top and bottom.
the views must be none perspective (square) also the higher the resolution of scan done
will allow me to make a more accurate model.
If you have these views could you scan and email to me, also page BO-77 of the FSM (the frame)
