Hey folks. Continuing the journey on my LC patching things up. My engine cover (see image) has a torn edge, which does not allow me to install the fastener. I could of course replace this cover with the factory replacement no problem.
But, since I'm down there, I'm looking at metal aftermarket skid plates. I don't do much rock crawling, mainly just dirt/mud, but would like something a bit more robust than the plastic/composite version below. I also don't want to buy a whole kit of underbody panels for ~1500-2000 USD. Ideally, I'd just find a CAD model/drawing of a metal version of the plate below, and have that made. Has anyone done this? If someone were willing to share, I'd love to take a look at what you did and see if I can make an Aluminum version of this engine cover.
Thanks. I had looked them up, but some users around here were indicating the quality may not be as good as those like Slee and Dissent. Perhaps that's the tradeoff with being able to buy individual pieces. Have you used them?

No I have not but you are asking for a budget solution and this is it. I have a full dissent system. You can get sections from slee, but again, that’s more expensive. Asfir is not as thick but it is well regarded for what it is.
This is basically what I want to do. Looks like the panel you have is the one I want to buy. I was under the impression I can just remove the stock cover, and replace it with the ASFIR one. Are you saying I'll need to trim the existing cover? I want to just remove the red outline piece and replace it with the ASFIR transmission case cover.

If you install the ASFIR mid skid plate and retain the front skid, there will be a gap between the ASFIR and stock front skid since the ASFIR skids do not begin and end the same as the factory.
Trimming the damaged factory plastic engine shield will fill this gap.

I built the plates and then drove for maybe two weeks with them, before removing them and never putting them back on. I wheel hard and the stock front metal plate has been more than enough for me. The sump and gearbox are pretty high up, with multiple crossmembers protecting them. Plates like those collect mud that is a super hard and annoying to clean afterwords.
