Ok, I've looked through the FSM, googled, looked here on this site, and I've come up with nothing. There's a cable inserted into the very front of oil pan no.1, covered by a metal guard. It's right behind the crankshaft pulley, and then it angles back towards the driver's side, where it eventually goes up the side of the oil pan and plugs in to another cable. It's leaking oil and I need to attend to it.

What is it?

Crank position sensor. Check your fsm and Google more.

EDIT: my apologies. I suppose if you don't know what it is, it could be hard to find in the FSM. It's under ignition.

No worries, I actually googled for it over a few days (and I nearly always find what I'm looking for), and searched through the FSM for quite some time- never thought to look in the Ignition section (nor in the sections for the Propeller Shaft, or Supplemental Restraint System ;)). I even looked in the EWD to see if it identified the plug, but the top-view sure doesn't do a good job of identifying it:

And @landtank has a great write up on here about what oRings you can buy at the hardware store to repair your oil leak.

Thanks, found it: crank sensor?

There's also somebody who stated he had been told that a 2000 Ford Explorer oil pan plug gasket would work. Fixing a crankshaft position sensor leak...

Both are pretty good and easy fixes, I'll see if I can find the both and compare the two options, off and on the sensor, and I'll post what I learn.

Check the leak location carefully, if the oil pump is leaking, will often run into that area.

Thanks! I just changed out the oil pump cover o-ring and the crankshaft seal and degreased everything, which is why I could even see the leak. I'm not 100% about it, so I'm going to check again prior to taking it off. I've also confirmed that the power steering pump is leaking from the back cover, so the o-ring in there is probably rock-hard like the one from the oil pump cover.

Thanks for the help, I'm pretty sure that once those things are done, the bottom of the truck will be bone-dry.

Do it all. Search YouTube for Texasknowhow land cruiser oil leak. It's not a very deep 'while you're in there' project.

Power steering pump is an easy, cheap rebuild also. Get the Gates pressure hose from Rock Auto. Gates pump rebuild kit also, but the OEM rebuild kit isnt much more, if you prefer. There's write ups, I don't recall it being difficult, been a few years.

Low oil level sensor I believe?
