I'm more of a Bass Pro Shops guy. Use the credit card for everything, and get free stuff a few times a year.

Sometimes the Cabela's stuff is priced way low, and they often have house brand stuff that is identical to the name brand for much less. Excellent return policy too - you can basically return anything for whatever reason, no questions. I've returned several broken fishing reels that they simply cheerfully replaced. I like Cabela's. It's worth shopping around, though.

Today I was looking for a specific lure that I couldn't find locally and was wondering if it even existed any more. I lost my last one to a big pike over the weekend. Cabela's didn't have it, Bass Pro Shops didn't have it, FishUSA didn't have it. Several Google searches later I found them at boatersworld.com and also found a kewl casting net there as well....

went to the cabela's just south of SLC on the way to moab to get a sleeping bag. It is built like a big lodge with lots of logs. kind of an anti-walmart. being canadian, it was quite the cultural experience. my little guy had never seen more than 2 guns for sale in a store at once. He approached the hand gun cases slowly and kind of sideways walking like they were dogs on leashes :D.

They're going to be putting a shop up here in NH next year. LL Bean just isn't in the same league. Cabela's has the best customer service. I broke off an eyelet on a pair of hiking boots that were thrashed over a 2 year period. I called them to see if I could have it repaired - they ended up sending me a brand new pair. I do have some Bass Pro Stuff, but a majority of our hunting/fishing supplies are from Cabela's.

I was excited when Cabela's opened their superstore in Lehi, Utah.

I went in, and was awed by the size fo the store.
    Then I started looking around...

Unfortunatyly, I was disappointed with the gear that they carried. Most, if not all of it, was priced at least 50% higher than what I could get the same piece of gear for at Sportsmans Warehouse.

EG there was a green, sheetmetal pantry box, with a cabela's sticker on it, on sale for $200.

I found the SAME green sheetmetal pantrybox, but without the cabela's sticker, for sale at Sportsmans Warehouse for $49.

I, too, am guilty of reeceiving their hard-bound catalogue. I can remeber ordering from Cabela's when I was just a kid and their catalogue was just photo-copied papers that were stapled together, perhaps 20 or 30 pages, mostly fishing rods, reels and lures.

Gander Mountain is okay. They killed our local fly fishing shop when they opened here. Their guns and ammo are overpriced. They have great deals on fishing stuff pretty often - I have to check the store once a week to see what they have on clearance - they have an amazing amount of merchandise turnover.

I'm just glad we are getting something besides Walmart. The local FF shop is run by a bunch of snobs and is WAY overpriced. The nearest BASS/Outdoor World is a hour and half away.
