Hey guys,
I recently flew interstate to see family for christmas and left my keys behind..
I need to use my vehicle to get to and from work before the keys get sent up. I removed the back of the ignition to start it with a screw driver earlier this evening without realising at the time that (obviously) the steering lock would still be engaged. At the moment I don't have the money, or means, of getting to the nearest toyo dealer to get another key cut.
If anyone has any pointers it'd be much appreciated. It's a '88 HJ75.
Cheers!

For anyone wondering, there is a large button like plug (could be a threaded bolt, not sure, I did cut it and try to unthread it, however it would only loosely move a couple mm either way) directly below and in line with the ignition barrel and steering column, the spring that holds the pin in place is located slightly off centre, towards the nearest bolt holding the ignition assembly in place. I simply drilled it out and removed the spring with a set of needle nose pliers. Now I can get to work and it's a lot easier than tearing at the wheel to shear the pin or removing the wheel and stalk assembly.

I am glad it worked out for you and I am saying this with no disrespect but to be honest this is not the kind of information that most of us want posted on a public forum. Hence the reason nobody replied. Security is a big issue for most LandCruiser owners and its best not to educate the bad guys ;)

Please delete this advice and the whole thread

Uh, seriously guys? In return, with no disrespect, if somebody wants to jack a 70 series they will jack a 70 series, much the same as any vehicle of the era or of similar security standards.
No point ignoring the elephant in the room. A thief would draw far less attention and save time just shearing the pin by force, which is common knowledge for almost all vehicles and a how to can be found anywhere on the internet, second of all if they were going to drill out the pin and go that route then they most likely already know what they are doing.
If anyone is that concerned about security to the point that they would rather not have someone post general information that may come in helpful one day regarding their own vehicle to the internet, I really do suggest upgrading the security.
I am going to leave the thread here and let the moderators decide if they feel it should be deleted. Once again, no disrespect meant to either members of the forum or moderators, I feel though that deleting this thread won't lower thefts of LC's and it's a bit ridiculous to try and hush up such obvious well known pitfalls of our vehicles.
