I am in Vancouver BC and found a vehicle in Alberta on on the net and I am wondering how to purchase privately? The person never intended to sell online just locally. Has anyone ever did a purschase like this? Is there a such thing as an escrow service? How do I transfer ownership from vancouver while the vehicle is in alberta and do I send money until this is done?

I would get a hold of a local (AB) cruiserhead to have a look at said vehicle. As they say "buyer beware" Seems to be quite a few Albertans on this board, I would also send an email to the Calgary LC club :Rocky Mountain Land Cruisers
they have members all over AB and are a great bunch, always willing to help out (within reason). I know a few lurk hear.
You will need to have this vehicle inspected in BC before you can get plates (insurance). You can get a permit, but you'll need a signed transfer form. You can pick one up from an Autoplan agent and maybe send it to the current owner to fill out and send back. You might need additional paperwork from AB, not sure about that. Maybe, one of the local LC guys could act as an escrow service

Check to see if the seller has a Pay Pal account then set one up for yourself this is a safer way of money transaction,seller can fill out the transfer papers and mail to you along with registration if you are having it shipped to you.
If you plan to drive it back you can get temp insurance for the drive back as said by Granite Grinder it will have to go through vehicle inspection,what year and model are you looking at buying out of curiosity.

Dont trust any type of Escrow service if its the sellers idea. Big time scam!!!! Have truck inspected as already stated, use Pay pal. Good luck.
