I think the expectation needs to be aligned with the vehicle, if you want to drive character and style them you aren't going to get a climate controlled passenger compartment that can handle 120 degree outside temps.

A/C who needs it. I just put the 40 in the garage and get in the Motorhome and leave town when the temps reach 100 and return when temps are under 100 and get the 40 back on the road again. It`s an easy way to stay under the mileage limit for insurance also.

After moving, holidays, and a few other projects, I now have time to finish the 45 project. I made a lot of headway this weekend. I have the head gasket in the engine almost buttoned up. Waiting for a few seals from Toyota to wrap it up, but getting close! Will be moving onto the bodywork next weekend.

I've also been sorting and labeling wiring. I'll cut this harness up this week and only keep what I need. As complicated as wiring is, this is super basic compared to the 2UZ and 3UR I've been dealing with. It is very straight forward with minimal computers and sensors.

I've spent about 5 of my days off in the last couple months finishing the wiring on this thing. We had it running for SEMA, but it wouldn't shift correctly. We ended up adding a few things back in we didn't think we'd need, but it's a monster now. A superchager was installed last week, and now it's even faster. If this truck proves as driveable and reliable as my 2UZ was, I'll start looking for a wrecked Tundra 5.7 for this project and ditch the 1FZ.

Dam that looks nice !!

Harrop has a new tvs supercharger for the 3ur. Not many people swap the 3ur.
We have one in the Cruiser Brothers warehouse, ready to ship to its new home. Georg Esterer @orangefj45 is having a hard time keeping his hands off it:)

Thats pretty cool! Pure performance in Australia sells a stroker kit. Bumps it to a 7.0. Not sure how much it costs after exchange rate in US dollars.

Minus GST at 10% and AUD to USD today is .72 to 1... about $10.5K not including shipping.

The reason I wanted a late 60's 40 for this build was some of the cool design features. I wanted more of the utility look, rather than some of the refinements on the later models.

After riding in a friends Pinzgauer, I remember thinking how utilitarian it was. Everything seemed heavy duty and well made. I absolutely loved the 3 handles in the middle of the dash to engage the center, rear, and front lockers. I have decided to do something similar with this.

Here's a pic of the Pinzgauer dash setup-

Being that this 40 will be on OEM E-locked 80 series axles, I've decided to do manual (cable) conversion of them, as well as the center diff lock. I obtained 2 additional shift handles and mounted them next to the OEM handle. This is what the dash looks like now.

The left handle will shift from Low to High. The middle handle will engage rear locker. The right handle will engage front locker. I will be using the OEM "F.D" push/pull handle to mechanically actuate the center diff lock, rather than using the motor. I will mount that knob just to the left of these three levers.

I also got a box full of goodies from cityracerLLC.... every piece of weatherstripping I'll need to reassemble this thing!

Cool build. Let me know if you have any more questions on the 40-80 mating.
I love my new 45-esk build with the 80 series chassis.

Some pretty awesome ideas! Amazing what we learn from each build! Can't wait to see how things come together on this one.

Taking inventory for parts collected so far:

OEM turn signals, bib lights, and rear lights
Dakota Digital dash
Real Steel bows

I really wanted to start on the body this weekend, but I'm tired of moving these axles around the garage. I knew I'd need to put them in sooner or later, so I knocked them out yesterday. Need to order a front knuckle kit from @cruiseroutfit on Monday.

Looking good, are u using factory switch for lockers or doing ur own thing ?

This is looking pretty cool.
Our 94 FZJ drives great on the highway. Much smoother than my 76 40.
Once I get my 40 running again I have a 60 series ac system I plan on fitting into it.

Been getting a lot done on FZJ45.4!

I cut the rear top rails to the final length. The cab will be a factoy FJ45 + 16". These are the outer dimensions of the cab-

My wife retained the 'Best Wife in the World' title, after helping me rebuild the knuckles. I showed her how to do the passenger side, and she did the driver's side on her own.

I ordered all of the push/pull cables that will actuate the diffs, CDL, high/low, and transmission

20190311_181248.jpg

I need the cables to be hard mounted behind the dash, so I build 3 brackets for the levers. They use the same 2 mounting holes as the levers themselves, and go about 7" behind the dash to mount the cable housing.

Now that I know the travel each handle is capable of, I can build a suitable lever for each item that needs to be controlled.

I also used the factory F.D. knob housing to mount the cable for the center diff lock. Again, I had to make bracket for the cable housing, so it is hidden behind the dash using the factory nut. Turned out just as I was hoping!
