X2 on the Tail light guards. These things will transfer all of the impact to the BODY, where they mount. Specifically I've witnessed a Land Rover that had these, and while the (replacable) lens remained intact, the (not so replacable) body around the tail light was FUBAR.
Remove them, before this happens to you.![]()
Once you have them removed... what to do with them?
Not willing to curse anyone with them, even a stranger on Ebay, I gave my old chrome tail light guards to my brother in law as scrap. I know one got welded to a go kart frame as a front end skid plate/bull bar.
The TLC tail light 'guards' are actually worse than the LR ones. The TLC ones only connect via the retaining screws on the tail light. These screws were only meant to keep the tail light from falling out on the ground. Any impact to the guards would seriously hose the lens mounting. If caught on a branch they would be a big crowbar between the tailgate and the lens.
The PO of my truck had the chrome bling going with cosmetic brush guard nerf tubes and tail light guards. I fixed that with an ARB, Hanna sliders and a Slee rear bumper/carrier. Of course my truck is a bit heavier now...
