This morning while driving home from work , I noticed my tachometer bouncing around , idle was fine , driving fine , revs normally , but around 2-3k rpm the tach was bouncing back and forth , 97 fzj80 181k miles , any advice helps !

There's been a few reports of this happening randomly, then going back to normal on it's own.

What year/model 80 do you drive?

You said the Tach was (past tense) bouncing around, did this just happen once on a cold engine when you first started out ?? What was the termperature outside when this happened, how often does it happen, ---??

Try some searches in the 80 forum (magnifying glass icon top right corner of any page) using some or all of these terms: bouncing jumpy tach tachometer

Tried searching but maybe didn’t search hard enough
Engine warm
Outside temp 40 degrees F on the freeway at 60-65

I think the technical term is "Wacko Taco"

Mine does this some times then it will stop for months. Most recently I gave the dash a good thwump when my D light went out for the 2nd time. D light came back and the tachometer has been behaving since them.

That's the long way of asking "did you try hitting it till it works?"
